Fuliginousity

by Cadence Beret

I walked the village
Where evergreens
Could still be seen

The air was warm
I wore sandals
My toes had specks of coal

Fuliginousity
Soot from the city
Or soot from trees
Where a forest once so green
Is radiating cochineal
