My Pieces

by Cadence Beret

Rekindled
Revived
Revitalized
      I am still alive
      I’m just trying to survive

Glued and sewed together
Screwed and welded in
      my soul and my heart
      and my body aches
      but I’m still alive
      I’m still standing
      I’m sometimes even dancing

Like a worn out Re-Flex
      the politics of dancing
the politics of oooo feeling good
      the politics of moving
      is the message understood?

The bits and pieces left of me
That had been torn apart
      ruined wreckage saved
      I salvage myself
      on a daily basis
as I try to move forward
      with oppressive regressors

The bits and pieces left of me
      continue to be
      ripped and torn apart
      but I persist insistently
and I bring them back together

With the politics of dancing
The politics of lubricating
      my soul and my body
      with the politics of
      oooo feeling good
      the politics of moving
      is the message understood?
