Viridescence

by Cadence Beret

Fresh baby nettles
Bloom on feathered evergreens
Soft to the touch
Of my fingertips
On every spring pine tree

We walked together on this path
You held my hand
We talked we played we laughed
You told me you loved me
With me you’d always be

Winter passed and spring returned
As you did
I couldn’t believe my sable eyes
Would ever again see
Your viridscent being

But unbelievably
You are here again with me
And the soft and gentle touch
Of your fingertips
Once again touches me
