Why Rye

by Cadence Beret

Once again I see you
Without me by your side
And I wonder why
It is she and not I
Who is always by your side

While a 70’s tune
Tumbles through my head
    If I can’t have you
    I don’t want nobody baby
    If I can’t have you, uh-ho, oh
Tumble I do not
I walk tall with my head held high

I keep on walking day and night
Without you by my side
And so another night goes by
To drown myself in rye

Filling my head and heart
Full of ethanol
Before I fill my empty bed
Without you by my side

For I don’t want another
Than you by my side
    If I can’t have you
    I don’t want nobody baby
    If I can’t have you, uh-ho, oh
So if without you I must be
I’ll drown myself in rye
